This working prototype consists of 80 cores with 3 sq. mm area for each, all are united on one crystal with area of 275 sq. mm in the matrix of 8 X 10 pieces. The maximum core quantity was not determined, simply Intel entered in the crystal of the assigned area precisely 80 cores. These cores are sufficiently primitive they have two blocks of floating-point calculations, tiny caches, and also the routing block , which is connected with the adjacent cores in four directions. one communication channel, vertical, is left for the memory, which can lie on processor cores in the top additional layer. Over long term intel expects to pass for the production of three-dimensional processors, which will have multilayer core arrangement .

The prototype of processor polaris has the design concept LGA with 1248 contacts, it operates at the frequency 3.16 GHz with vcore 0.95 v, TDP level in this case is equal to 62 W. At this frequency the performance of processor exceeds one teraflop. To increase the processor performance intel has to increase the clock frequency. For example, at frequency 5.1 GHz processor demonstrates performance on the order of 1.63 teraflop, in this case the energy consumption reaches 175 W. At the frequency 5.7 GHz the performance reaches 1.81 teraflop, the energy consumption grows to 265 W. After gathering together 202 such processors, it is possible to reach the speed level in floating-point calculations, witch is higher than the most powerful super-computer of our days, which uses 65 536 dual cores processors.
